IMPACT. CONNER SMITH ABOUT TO HIT THIS PITCH OUT OF THE PARK IN 1ST INNING
The Athletics blasted three home runs out of the park and used solid pitching from Andrew Deguzman to defeat the Orioles 11
to 2 in NOL Little League baseball action April 16 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Florida. Connor Smith blasted home runs
in the first & the fourth inning while Deguzman also "went yard" with a first-inning home run for the Athletics.
Deguzman went four solid innings striking out eight and also had three hits and scored three runs on the day.

The Athletics set the tone of the game in the very first inning when Smith and Deguzman hit first-inning home runs for a 2-0
lead. Deguzman, after walking the first batter, struck out the side in the first inning putting the Orioles in an early two-run
In the top of the Athletics second inning, Rhett Dixon reached on error and then scored when Chris Commander cranked
a double over the head of the Orioles right fielder. Then with the score 3-0, the Athletics loaded the bases when Pat Barrett
walked and leadoff hitter Derek Champine reached on an error.
BEATS THROW TO THIRD
With the bases-loaded and one out Connor Smith stood at the dish fully intending to bust the game wide open for the Athletics
at this point. But the Orioles coach Page had made a pitching change and Isaac was now on the mound. Isaac was able to get
Smith to pop up to the infield. The next batter for the Athletics Chance Moore hit a line shot up the middle that looked like
a sure two run single. But amazingly the ball hit the second base bag and caromed to the Orioles second baseman Barksdale
who flipped the ball to second for a forceout on Champine to end the inning.
MOORE RIPS THE BALL TOWARDS CENTERFIELD. BALL HITS 2ND BASE BAG AND CAROMED TO O'S 2ND BASE FOR AN OUT.
Inspired now the Orioles went right to work in the bottom of the second. Henry hit a ground ball that scooted past the
Athletics second baseman into right field for a hit. Henry moved to second when a pitch got away from the Athletics Catcher.
Payton then slapped a ground ball just over the third-base bag in down the left-field line for a run batted in double. With
the score now 3-1, Payton advanced to third when a pitch bounced in the dirt. The Athletics catcher blocked the ball and made
a play on Payton at third. But Payton beat the throw with a slide. The next oriole batter reached when a third strike got
away from the Athletics catcher. A walk loaded the bases with one out. Suddenly the Orioles had a real pressure cooker going.
Athletics coach Goldfield went to the mound to talk to his team about how to break up this rally the Orioles had going.
Whatever he said seem to work. Deguzman got the next batter on an infield fly. Barksdale, The next oriole hitter, hit a high
deep twisting flyball to left field that had extra bases written all over it. But the Athletics leftfielder Pat Barrett made
a fine running catch to end the inning and preserve the 3 to 1 lead.
BARKSDALE SLAMS DEEP FLY TO LEFT WITH BASES LOADED IN 2ND INNING
In the top of the fourth the Athletics got infield hits from Commander and Champine. Running the bases aggressively
the Athletics tried to execute a double steal. The Orioles seem to have it sniffed out & got Commander hung up between
home and third. However a throw to the plate was in the dirt & Commander was able to score. With the score 4-1, Smith
stepped up and slammed a two-run homer to make it 6-1. From there consecutive two-out hits by Moore, Deguzman, Parker Barrett
and Alexander Goldfield scored two more runs to make it 8-1.
HAMMERS HIS 2ND HR ON THE DAY, A TWO RUN SHOT IN THE 4TH
The Orioles were able to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth. Payton scratched out an infield hit and was able
to move around to third after a couple of pitches got away from the Athletics catcher. Payton then scored on Bruce's grounder
to second. This however was the end of the orioles highlight reel.
KHYRIN LEAPS TO AVOID BEING HIT BY PITCH IN 4TH INNING
From there it was the Athletics relief pitcher Derek Champine who made two brilliant defensive stops. One on a rocket
line drive back at the mound. The other was a short check swing pop fly down the third-base line that had Champine make a
diving grab of the ball as he rolled across the ground.
The Athletics added three runs later in the game. The Final 11-2.

SMITH LEADS DEFENSE AND GOLDFIELD GOES 3 FOR 3 IN VICTORY
Navy Ortega Lakeside Little League game of the week featured the Athletics versus the Rangers April 4 at Naval Air Station
Jacksonville Florida. The athletics prevailed winning 11-8 in a game that saw the Rangers go-ahead 5-0 in the first inning.
However the Athletics came back with timely hitting and some great defensive plays by shortstop Conner Smith.
The Rangers got things going early when leadoff hitter "Bubba" beat out an infield hit. Later "Tommy"
slapped a RBI double past 3rd to draw first blood 1-0. Rangers coaxed the bases-loaded by the way of walks. After a strikeout,
a walk by "Reedy" forced in a run to make it 2-0. The athletics then made a pitching change. Rangers next batter
Eric Carter then hit a bouncer that slipped into centerfield for A RBI single making it 4-0. "Ramsey" then hit a
Texas league single to right field and it was 5-0.
PAT BARRETT RAPS OUT A SINGLE IN ATHLETICS 11-8 WIN
But the of Athletics came right back getting four walks to score one run. Then Goldfield scratched out an infield hit to score
another run. A pitch in the dirt and a wild pitch scored two more runs. When it was all done the athletics had cut the lead
to one run down now only 5-4.
CATCHER (GOLDFIELD#37) ABOUT TO CATCH 1ST INNING POP UP
Neither team scored in the second inning. In the bottom of the third the athletics rallied again. Smith led off with a single
to center. Then more boomed a triple to right scoring Smith to tie the game. Deguzman put the Athletics ahead with a solid
run batted in single up the middle. Now The Athletics lead 6-5. Deguzman moved to third after a pitch in the dirt and a groundout.
Goldfield up next slapped a double into the left-center gap just out of the reach of the leaping Ranger shortstop to score
Deguzman to make it 7-5. Commander hit a double to right field scoring Goldfield and it was 8-5 athletics after three complete
innings. It might have been worse for the Rangers except Simon was able to get a bases-loaded strikeout to finally put the
RANGERS LEADOFF BATTER (BUBBA) BEATS OUT AN INFIELD HIT. BUBBA HAD TWO HITS AND A WALK IN THE GAME WON BY ATHLETICS 11-8
The Rangers in the top of the fourth got their leadoff man on. But athletic shortstop Connor Smith made a great play
on a pop-up doubling off the runner at first in the Rangers had nothing going in the top of the fourth.
The Athletics got it going again in the bottom of the fourth. Champine doubled and Smith doubled him home. A pitch in
the dirt move Smith to third where he scored on Moore's RBI grounder. That made it 10-5 Athletics.
But the Rangers had a ballgame left in them. "Ben" reached on a walk and moved around to third on two
wild pitches. He then scored when Luke walked and bluffed a steal & drew a throw allowing Ben to steal home. After a walk
Brock had a RBI single to right. A pitch got loose and runners moved up to 2nd & third. The next Ranger batter (Carter)
hit a pop fly that looked like a sure hit into left field but Athletics shortstop Smith ranged for into left field and made
a dandy catch keeping all Rangers runners from advancing. A grounder scored Reedy to make it 10-8.
RANGERS BATTER (CARTER
#5) GETS A HIT IN RANGERS 5 RUN 1ST INNING
The Athletics got one more run when Barrett was plunked in the ribs with a pitch and then scored on Goldfields
third hit of the game. That made the score 11-8. The Rangers in this expanding were able to get to runners on with one out.
But shortstop Smith turned a hard shot into a game ending double play to preserve the win for the Athletics.
