FRCSE NIGHTMARE FIGHTS OFF AIR OPS IN BATTLE OF UNDEFEATED

IT WAS CLASSIC FOOTBALL WEATHER WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT SEA KING PARK ON NAS JAX. COOL AND A LIGHT RAIN FELL AS TWO FLAG FOOTBALL TEAMS CAME TO PLAY - BOTH UN-BEATEN.

FRCSE "NIGHTMARE" ARRIVED 6-0 WHILE AIR OPS SHOWED UP 4-0.

FRCSE SCORED FIRST IN THE CONTEST WITH A 60 YARD 7 PLAY DRIVE WHEN NIGHTMARE QB TAYLOR HIT CLARK WITH A 10 YARD TD ON A FLAT PASS. THIS A PLAY THAT WAS EFFECTIVE ALL NIGHT AND TAYLOR CLARK WOULD CONNECT LATER IN THE GAME FOR A 2ND TD. TAYLOR PASSED TO TEKAC FOR THE EXTRA POINT AND A 7-0 FRCSE LEAD.

MEANWHILE ON DEFENSE FRCSE HELD AIROPS AND FORCED THEM TO PUNT. "BARNEY RUMBLE" CAMPBELL CAME UP BIG WITH THE PASS RUSH AND SACKED THE AIR OP QB ONCE AND DOGGED AIR OPS ALL NIGHT.

FRCSE THEN DROVE DOWN AGAIN, HELPED IN PART, BY SEVERAL AIROPS PENALTIES AND SCORED ON A 5 YARD TAYLOR TO HELMS PASS. HELMS HAD PULLED IN A FOURTH DOWN PASS TO PICK UP A BIG 1ST DOWN EARLIER ON THIS DRIVE.

BELOW CLARK SCORES ON PASS FROM TAYLOR FOR 7-0 FRCSE LEAD

HELMS CATCHES 4TH DOWN PASS FOR 1ST DOWN

THINGS GOT WORSE FOR AIROPS. FRCSE DEFENSE PICKED OFF AIROPS IST PASS AS COMPTON STEPPED IN FRONT OF AN AIROPS RECIEVER. COMPTON DID LATEREL OFF ON THE RETURN AND WHEN IT WAS OVER FRCSE WAS ON THE AIROPS 3 YARD LINE 1ST AND GOAL.

AIROPS WAS IN REALLY BAD SHAPE AT THIS POINT. DOWN 13-0 WITH FRCSE AT THIER GOAL LINE. THE REALLY NEEDED A GOAL LINE STAND OR ELSE THE GAME WOULD BE PRETTY MUCH OVER. BUT AIROPS DEFENSE STEPPED UP HOLDING TAYLOR ON A QB KEEPER TO NO GAIN AND THE BREAKING UP TWO PASSES IN THE END ZONE. A 4TH DOWN EFFORT BY FRCSE FAILED AND THEY TURNED THE BALL OVER ON DOWNS TO AIROPS AT THE 14.

BELOW AIR OPS  BREAKS UP PASS IN ENDZONE

AIROP QB MCPEAK THEN GOT HOT HITTING 5 STRAIGHT PASSES- TWO BIG ONES TO CARSON. ONE FOR 37 THE OTHER FOR 20 YARDS. MCPEAK HIT AIROPS BILLY BOHANNON FOR A 1 YD TD TO CAP THE DRIVE. MCPEAK THEN HIT SEIGERS FOR THE EXTRA POINT AND JUST LIKE THAT THE FRCSE LEAD WAS CUT TO 13-7.

FRCSE CAME BACK MOVING THE BALL AS QB TAYLOR HIT THREE STRAIGHT PASSES FOR ONE FIRST DOWN THEN TUDOR RAN FOR ANOTHER. BUT A LATERAL THEN PASS WAS PICKED OFF BY AIROPS SHEPARD. SHEPARD MADE A GREAT LEAPING GRAB OF THE PASS THEN GOT A TOE DOWN BEFORE CRASHING OUT OF BOUNDS.

NOW THERE WAS ONLY 43 SECONDS LEFT IN THE HALF AND AIR OPS HAD THE BALL AT MIDFIELD. YOU COULD FEEL THE MOMENTIUM HAD SHIFTED TO AIROPS. QB MCPEAK WENT TO WORK AND HIT SEIGERS FOR 4 YD THEN SHEPARD FOR 12 AND A FIRST DOWN AT FRCSE 12 YARD LINE.

BELOW AIROPS MCPEAK FIRES PASS TO SHEPARD

WHAT WAS TO FOLLOW WAS BAFFELING. ON THE LAST PLAY FRCSE CORNERBACK FIELDS HAD LOST HIS FLAG. THE REF POINTED THIS OUT JUST AS AIROPS WAS LINED UP AND READY TO SNAP THE BALL. FIELDS THEN HAD TO RUN ACROSS THE LINE TO TRY AND FETCH HIS FLAG. FRCSE LOOKED FOR SURE TO BE FLAGGED FOR BEING OFFSIDES AND CAN BE SEEN TRYING TO CALL TIMEOUT. AIROPS SNAPPED THE BALL WITH FIELDS 10 MILES ACROSS THE LINE. BUT INSTEAD OFF OFFSIDES FRCSE... AIROPS WAS CALLED FOR DELAY OF GAME. I CAN NOT EXPLAIN THIS CALL. I REPLAYED THE EVENTS OVER AND OVER AND I SAW NO DELAY OF GAME- AIROPS SNAPPED THE BALL 10 SECONDS AFTER THE REF PUT THE BALL DOWN & WHEN THEY DID,  FIELDS WAS OFFSIDE. REFS ARE PART OF THE GAME AND MAYBE I AM MISSING SOMETHING. I HAVE VIDEO AND IT LOOKS LIKE AIROPS RUSHED TO SNAP THE BALL TO CATCH FRCSE OFFSIDES- NOT DELAYING AT ALL.

MOST OF ALL THIS CALL THREW AIROPS OFFTRACK JUST WHEN IT WAS LOOKING LIKE A PROMISING DRIVE. THE DRIVE STALLED AS AFTER THE DELAY FO GAME CALL THEY WERE FLAGGED NEXT PLAY FOR PROCEDURE. AN INCOMPLETE PASS THEN A SACK AND THE CLOCK RAN OUT ON THE HALF. FRCSE HELD ITS LEAD AT 13-7.

AIROPS WAS FLAGGED 8 TIMES IN THE GAME & KILLED  TWO DRIVES

FRCSE GOT THE BALL TO START THE 2ND HALD BUT AIROPS WAS STILL PLAYING INSPIRED AND AFTER FRCSE MISSED A 4TH DOWN TRY.

AIROPS WAS IN GOOD POSITION AGAIN WITH A 1ST DOWN AT THE FRCSE 21. MCPEAK HIT SHEPARD WITH A SHORT PASS AND HE TOOK OFF AND DANCED HIS WAY TO THE END ZONE FOR A TOUCHDOWN. BUT HOLY COW BATMAN. THERE IS A FLAG. THE CALL AGAINST AIROPS AND WIPES THE TD OFF THE BOARDS. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE AIROPS GETS HIT WITH A UNSPORTSMAN CONDUCT AND INSTEAD OF A TD THEY END UP WITH 2ND AND 20 AT THE 40. THE PENALTIES AGAIN HAD KILLED A PROMISING DRIVE FOR AIR OPS AS THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET THE 1ST DOWN AND FRCSE GOT THE BALL BACK.

BUT WITH THE SCORE STILL 13-7 FRCSE WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE BALL AND TURNED IT OVER ON DOWNS IN FRCSE TERRITORY AT THE 37. MCCPEAK MOVED AIROPS DOWN THE FIELD AND BUT FRCSE MADE A HUGE STAND AND STOPPED AIROPS AT THE ONE YARD LINE.

FRCSE, RUNNING PLAYS FROM THEIR END ZONE WAS FEELING THE PRESSURE OF THE INSPIRED AIROPS DEFENSE. FRCSE, TRYING TO PITCH OUT FUMBLED AND THE BALL DROPPED TO THE GROUND FOR A SAFETY. THE SCORE MADE IT 13-9 AND AIROPS HAD THE BALL WITH ANOTHER CHANCE TO TAKE THE LEAD.

BUT IT WAS NOT TO BE FOR AIROPS. THE FIRST PASS WAS PICKED OFF BY FRCSE- COMPTON AGAIN WITH THE PICK.

FRCSE WASTED NO TIME AND TAYLOR TOSSED A TD PASS TO TEKAC A 20 YARD HOOKUP. THE EXTRA POINT MADE IT A COMMANDING 20-9 LEAD FOR FRCSE.

IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR AIROPS AND ANOTHER PICKOFF BY FRCSE'S FIELDS SET UP ANOTHER TAYLOR TD PASS TO CLARK.

AIROPS WAS DONE. FRCSE SCORED ON THE LAST PLAY OF THE GAME SO THE FINAL WAS 32-9. THE GAME HOWEVER HAD BEEN A REAL BATTLE.

FRCSE QB TAYLOR HAD THROWN FOR 4 TD'S (14 FOR 25, 177 YARDS) WHILE MCPEAK HAD THROWN 4 PICKS (11 FOR 23, 129 YARDS). AIROPS HAD BEEN HIT WITH 8 FLAGS FOR 75 YARDS AND THAT STAT IS WHAT ULTIMATELY WAS THE DIFFERENCE.

WITH THE WIN FRCSE IMPROVES IT'S RECORD TO 7-0 WHILE AIROPS DROPPED TO 4-1 WITH THE LOSS.

OCTOBER 22 GAME OF THE WEEK

FRCSE "NIGHTMARE" HOLDS OFF VR58 SUNSEEKERS 26-24 IN THRILLER.

TWO POINT TRY BY VR58 AS TIME EXPIRED FAILS, SEALS THE DEAL IN FRCSE VICTORY  MICHAEL TEKAC WAS a real nightmare... scoring three times & had 2 picks to lead a 4th quarter comeback for FRCSE.

Monday in 7 on 7 flag football action at Sea King Park saw two undefeated teams going head to head. FRCSE 3-0 coming into the contest while VR58 showed up 2-0. It was a case of two great teams doing battle and turned out to be an epic struggle down to the final play.

VR58 using a precision passing attack had build a 18-12 lead going into the 4th quarter. Sunseeker QB Mitchum was 19 for 32 passing for 277 yards and 4 TD's in the game using six different receivers. VR58 had just marched down the field 50 yards in 4 passing plays to go ahead late in the 3rd quarter.

As the fourth quarter began, FRCSE started a 65 yard drive. FRCSE moved the ball in small bites of yardage, mostly on the ground using an option play using alternating QB's Moye and Taylor plus alternating halfbacks. TEKAC broke loose on a 23 Yard run for a TD and then QB Moye passed to Halfback Tuber for the extra point to give FRCSE a 19-18 lead. But It looked like Mitchum was going to move VR58 down the field again hitting Griff with a 22 pass to move the ball to midfield. But TEKAC picked off a pass and returned it 40 yards for a TD. Moye then hit TEKAC for the extra point and FRCSE had a 26-18 lead.

VR58's first pass on the next drive was intercepted again by Nightmare's TEKAC and returned to the Sunseeker 10 yard line. It was looking like it might become a complete VR58 disaster as FRCSE was 1st and goal at the 10. If FRCSE scored here it would be out of reach for VR58. FRC QB Taylor ran 8 yards to put the ball on VR58's 2 yard line. But VR58 stopped the next two runs for no gain and then turned away a 4th down pass to get the ball back with only seconds remaining in the game. Mitchum would need to move VR58 78 yards and then get a 2 pt extra point to tie the game.

He almost did it. Mitchum hit on 7 of 9 passes and hit McCoy for a TD pass just as time expired to set up the 2 PT try. But it was not to be. Mitchum's pass attempt to McCoy in the back of the end zone did not connect and it ended the contest with FRCSE hanging on with a 26-24 hard fought win.

FRCSE Taylor was 12 for 20 passing for FRCSE for 150 yards & 2 TD's and also ran 6 times for 20 yards. TEKAC ran 3 times for 33 yards and a rushing TD to go along with his "pick six". He also grabbed an extra point pass to add to an already super human performance.

Campbell had 5 catches and a TD for FRCSE. McCoy lead VR58 with 7 catches for 71 yards and 3 touchdowns. Griff had 77 yards on 4 catches.

FRCSE is 4-0 with the Victory while VR58 drops to 2-1 with the loss.
